Call for Workshop Proposals

Workshop Application Deadline: February 1, 2025

Overview

We invite you to submit an educational workshop for the 2025 Society for Ethnobotany meeting. Suggested topics are provided but all workshop ideas linked to the teaching and practice of ethnobotany will be considered. Workshops are informal, interactive gatherings of people of similar interests. We welcome creative workshop formats. Each workshop proposal should specify duration and breaks as necessary.


Topics

We are especially interested in organizers proposing novel topics on emerging themes but will also consider proposals for workshop topics like those of previous years.

Examples of previous year’s workshop topics include:

  • Laboratory or Investigator Websites
  • Nature Journaling
  • Taste, smell, touch & sound for Plant Identification
  • Knowing Nature: Classroom Observations
  • Weaving Together Ethnobotany
  • Interviewing techniques
  • Connecting students to ecology through culture: An ethnobiological approach
  • Economic Botany: Publishing and Peer Review
  • Engaging Students & Indigenous Communities in Global Health Research
  • Caribbean Medicinal Teas & Bush Baths
  • Grocery Store Botany

We would also like the following to be considered:

  • Establishing biocultural collections
  • Botanical illustrations
  • Botanical printing
  • Writing successful grant applications
  • Engaging the ChatGPT platform
  • Managing nature social media accounts


Proposal

Your proposal will need to include:

  • First Name, Last Name, Email, Institution/Organization, Country
  • Proposed Title
  • Number of Predicted Attendance Size (A rough estimate)
  • Preferred Session Format (1 ½ hours or 3 hours)
  • A brief workshop description:
  • In 300 words or less, please share why this topic is important for the SEB community, share the names of the organizers and their relevant experience and expertise, and any cost and/or description of materials required. (Please note that SEB cannot guarantee that workshop providers will be refunded for the cost of materials. That is still to be determined based on the meeting budget)
